Wonderful Wheatgrass Juice

Wonderful Wheatgrass Juice

Wheatgrass as long been recognised by health practitioners as a very effective Superfood, which is a natural food containing very high levels of nutrients. Wheatgrass has been used in traditional rituals for centuries, Hindus sow and then offer Wheatgrass saplings to the Mother Goddess and the Persian society have grown Wheatgrass to celebrate Nowruz  - Persian New Year since the 6TH century BC.
In the 1930’s Dr Charles Schnabel popularised this plant and cans of powdered wheatgrass became available in the USA and Canada and recognised as a Vitamin food. However, it wasn’t until the 1970’s when Ann Wigmore started juicing the wheatgrass and became an advocate that it began to gain popularity. Founder of the Hippocrates Health Institute she states that "as part of a raw food diet Wheatgrass cleanses the body of toxins while providing the body a proper balance of nutrients".

Wheatgrass or Wheatgrass Juice?
I think it’s important to mention here that there is Wheatgrass and then there is our Live Wheatgrass!!!. We grow our Wheatgrass outdoors and organically, using sustainable farming methods and a traditional deep root method. We harvest at just the right time so that is remains free of sugar and gluten and is packed full of vitamins and nutrients. We then clean and juice the Wheatgrass and flash freeze it so that it maintains the maximum amount of vitamins and nutrients and beneficial enzymes.
Wheatgrass is often referred to as “Green Blood” and many people consuming Wheatgrass refer to it as Green Blood Therapy. This is because Chlorophyll, the green colour in plants, and therefore a fundamental element of Wheatgrass is very similar to blood, both having a pH of 7.4. This means that Wheatgrass Juice can be quickly absorbed into the blood stream making it very effective, article here.

But why drink Wheatgrass Juice?
There are many reasons to drink Wheatgrass Juice and we will take a look at a few of them here:

Supports a healthy immunesystem
One of the documented Wheatgrass benefits is its ability to increase red blood cells in the body, making it an excellent immunity booster, article here. It contains key nutrients that help to support the immune system, such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants and enzymes. This gives your body the nutrients it needs to fight off infections.

Supports healthy skin
The antioxidants found in Wheatgrass help fight chronic inflammation, which occurs when the immune system reacts to an unwanted substance. When the body mistakenly reacts to something that is not a threat, some health issues may arise, and psoriasis and eczema are examples of this. As Wheatgrass  juice contains key nutrients, such as vitamin A and E it is very effective in supporting healthy skin.

Type 2 Diabetes research
People have used wheatgrass as a traditional medicine for type 2 diabetes for a long time, and some scientists have found evidence that it may help. A 2016 study on rats, for example, found that wheatgrass raised insulin levels and helped lower blood glucose.
Experts believe that inflammation plays a role in diabetes. By fighting inflammation, wheatgrass may also support people managing both diabetes and some of its complications.

An excellent antioxidant
Wheatgrass also contains several important antioxidants, including glutathione and vitamins C and E.
Antioxidants are compounds that fight free radicals to prevent cell damage and reduce oxidative stress.
Some studies have found that antioxidants may help protect against certain conditions, such as heart disease, cancer, arthritis and neurodegenerative diseases (article here).

Supports a healthy digestive system
Practitioners of traditional medicine have long used wheatgrass to reduce stomach pain and manage minor gastrointestinal problems, such as diarrhoea or digestive problems.

It is worth mentioning that wheatgrass does Not contain gluten or wheat.
Due to the high level of nutrients wheatgrass juice supports a heathy digestive system. Our skin is the largest organ in the body and wraps around all internal organs and also the intestinal tract. This means, as wheatgrass juice is effective in supporting healthy skin, it has also been found to help our digestive system.
Wheatgrass also has a high fiber content, which helps to keep the gut healthy.
Authors of a 2014 review suggested that wheatgrass may help help against the symptoms of ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory condition that affects the large intestine.

Increases vitality and provides a tangible energy boost

Wheatgrass Juice has long been highly regarded for its nutritional properties by health professionals. As it is particularly rich in Vitamins A, B5, B12 and E it helps to increase vitality and provides a long-lasting energy boost. This is something many of our customers feel very quickly and tell us makes a big difference to their health and wellness.

Cancer research
An Israeli research team concluded from a study of 60 patients with breast cancer  that the side effects (myelotoxicity), which is associated with chemotherapy were reduced by consuming wheatgrass juice, and patients could better tolerate chemo treatment - without wheatgrass impacting the effectiveness of the actual chemo treatment. They also concluded that it was an early result, and this should be investigated further, article here.
The National Cancer Institute refers to the large amount of nutrients in Wheatgrass juice, including A, B vitamins, C and E, minerals, including selenium, iron, magnesium, calcium, manganese, copper and zinc, amino acids, chlorophyll and a number of antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase and cytochrome oxidase. They mention that although the effects have yet to be fully understood, the components in wheatgrass juice may scavenge free radicals, reduce chemotherapy-induced myelotoxicity, neutralize toxins and carcinogens and modulate the levels of certain pro-inflammatory molecules, article here.
