The best superfoods for energy and recovery

Superfoods are foods that are packed full of beneficial nutrients, vitamins and amino acids that your body needs to survive. Often plant-based and containing minimal calories they are a great addition to any diet. These five superfoods will help you feel energised and raring to go.

  1. Berries

Dark berries are rich in antioxidants which need replacing after physical activity. Containing great dietary fibre, they keep you feeling fuller for longer and so reduce hunger cravings and stop us from filling up with low nutrient foods.

And for those busy with life's many pressures, we've made things easy for you with our Elixir Vitality juice. Brimming with berries this delicious anti-oxidant will leave you feeling refreshed and energised.

  1. Wheatgrass Juice

Often referred to as a nature’s energiser, it is packed full of nutrients and vitamins.

Rich in Vitamins A, B5, B12 and E it helps to increase vitality and provides a long-lasting energy boost. The extremely high levels of chlorophyll in wheatgrass juice can help the body build red blood cells, which carry oxygen to different organs and tissues in the body, invigorating them along the way.

  1. Beetroot
Beetroot has been used by athletes to promote performance and recent studies have shown that it may improve blood flow due to its antioxidant properties.
  1. Maca

Known to enhance endurance performance and energy, it can also help you feel happier. Packed with flavonoids it is naturally low in fat and high in protein. Containing essential amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C, iron, magnesium, zinc and calcium, maca is a supplement that is growing in popularity.  It is an adaptogen meaning that it adapts to what the body needs and can help to keep the body in balance.

We add maca to our delicious Kale, Reishi & Maca Juice. This superfood is a complete protein and rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, and other essential vitamins and minerals. It provides an energy boost, but it's not a stimulant (like caffeine), so it won't leave you jittery and anxious.

  1. Cocoa.

The bean from cocoa is very rich in flavonols which are antioxidants that fight free radicals. It is these flavonols that make chocolate good for you. According to the Cleveland Clinic, flavonoids have other health properties such as helping to lower blood pressure, improving blood flow to the brain and heart, and making blood platelets less sticky, helping to prevent clotting.

We all know that chocolate makes us feel good and this is likely related to cacao's high magnesium content, which plays a role in both relaxation and energy production. We add cacao to our mouth-watering beetroot and maqui juice which makes for a refreshing and energising drink.
