What superfoods are good for acne?

Acne is a common skin condition that results in lumps and bumps appearing on the skin. These can be blackheads, whiteheads, pustules and pimples

It can be painful for the sufferer and lots of money is spent on topical creams and lotions to try and get rid of the problem.

However, there is a lot of truth in the old saying ‘You are what you eat and by making some changes to what we put in our body, we can support good skin health.

Wheatgrass juice is a great addition to your diet if you are trying to improve your skin health, this is because:

  • It has high levels of chlorophyll that help cleanse toxins from our gut to support and repair our skin health, leading to clearer, less congested skin.
  • Wheatgrass is high in antioxidants which fight free radicals to prevent cell damage and reduce oxidative stress on the skin.
  • One sachet of field-grown wheatgrass juice is equivalent to 1.5lbs of broccoli. For its size, it really packs a punch and delivers the nutrients our skin needs
  • When skin becomes inflamed it can get blotchy, puffy and spots can appear. If inflammation becomes severe conditions such as acne, can occur. Most skin inflammation occurs when your immune system responds to a trigger, Skin is an important part of our immune system as it is the first line of defence against infection and provides a barrier. Vitamin A helps strengthen this barrier by promoting healthy cell production, it also helps to prevent clogged pores, reducing acne-causing blockages. 346% of the RDA for Vitamin A can be found in our wheatgrass juice.

Of course, adding wheatgrass juice to your diet alone cannot counteract an otherwise unhealthy diet, so focusing on a varied diet is that is high in low glycemic foods and fruits, and vegetables is important.

But next time before reaching for that cream or lotion maybe think about what you are putting inside your body and see if a small change in diet can alter what you see on the outside.
