Did you know that a firework can travel at speeds of up to 150mph? With this in mind it’s important to handle them correctly. Always ensure that an adult lights the fireworks and follows the directions correctly.
Keep Pets happy
Pets can get very nervous on bonfire night as the load bangs and noise would usually indicate danger in the wild. If you are going out make sure your per has everything they need to be comfy and ensure to close all windows and curtains. Maybe turn the radio or TV on the counteract the noise outside
Bonfire safety
It may sound obvious but a fire can spit, so make sure you stand well away from the flames. If you are hosting an event, make sure you have a water source handy- just in case!

Hats, coats and mittens are often needed in November, especially for the little ones. Make sure you have enough layers to keep everyone happy throughout the evening.

Try some healthy options for this bonfire night to ensure you are warm and toasty.
Fruit rockets
This fun snack is a healthy alternative for fireworks night. You will need:
- Grapes
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Wooden skewers
Simply add the fruit to the skewers and you have a fruit rocket.
Healthier toffee apples
Essential for bonfire night but this recipe make it as healthy as possible. You will need:
- 6 small apples
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup honey
- 3/4 cream
- Melted chocolate for drizzling
Insert wooden skewers or twigs if you want to be rustic into the apples.
Meanwhile combine the maple syrup, honey, and cream and bring to a boil. Boil until thickened and then dip apples into caramel. Drizzle with chocolate and leave to set.
Flame dippers
A fun way to eat veggies and dip on bonfire night. You will need:
- Red and yellow peppers
- Houmous
- Black olives
Cut the peppers into strips to represent the flames and blend the olives with the houmous to represent the bonfire and an easy but effective dish.
Vegan sausage rolls
Easy to pass around and easy to eat , especially when you know they are a healthier option!
You will need:
- Vegan puff pastry
- 1 onion
- 3 cloves minced garlic
- 5 cups mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
- 1 cup cashew nuts
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- Seeds for garnish
Cook the mushroom-onion-cashew mixture then let it cool. Spoon into the centre of a roll of puff pastry and roll the pastry into a sausage shape. Brush with vegan butter, cut into bite sized pieces and bake in the oven until golden.
Sweet baked potatoes
This warming dish is a healthy alternative and will soon become a family favourite. You will need:
- Sweet potatoes
- Olives
- Feta cheese
- Sun dried tomatoes
- Parsley
Bake the potatoes in the oven until cooked, about 40 minutes. Then chop all the ingredients and add to the potatoes.
